49 New Franchise Concepts in Q1 2006

The universe of active franchise companies continues to grow. The New Concept Report for the first quarter of 2006 identified 49 new franchise concepts from 18 different industries and 40 different subsectors.

While many of the concepts were food-related, there were also new systems in service areas, such as maintenance, business services, and real estate. Additionally, there were several brands in more retail industries such as beauty, printing, health & fitness, and child-related products.

In their filings, these systems reported 1300 existing units, most of which were company-owned or converted units. They project growth of 880 units in 2006.

A Targeted Marketing Report and Contact List

We've been researching the markets and can now identify over 150 publicly traded companies that are in franchising - companies that control 250 different brands.

One of the most interesting outcomes of this research is to be able to identify which corporate entity is public and its relationship to its franchising arm. We divided our finding into 3 groups:

• Franchisors who are publicly traded
• Publicly traded parent companies with franchising affiliates. These companies typically have multiple brands and are primarily focused on franchising (for example, Yum!).
• Public companies with minor business interests in franchising.
