How Many Franchisees?
Often people look at franchises and don't know how many owners are involved. FRANdata recently updated its Franchisee Contact List with addresses for 4 important fast food (QSR) franchises: Subway, Sonic, Dairy Queen, and Noble Romans.
Subway has approximately 17,000 US franchised stores. There are:
- 8,000 unique owners
- 4,500 (56%) own only a single location
- 3,500 (44%) own multiple locations, and
- 150+ (2%) own 10 or more stores
By comparison, Sonic - a hamburger chain with a higher concentration of stores in Southern US - reported 2200+ franchise locations.
- 400 unique owners
- 160 (40%) own single locations, and
- 240 (60%) own multiple shops
Noble Roman's, on the other hand, does not disclose the number of units for each owner. The system has 850 franchised locations, and instead gives HQ addresses for 400+ distinct franchisees.
